CALL TO WORSHIP: Nora Tallent                                        

Come, let us cease our worship of the things of the world.   We do not need them.  

Let us lay aside our desire for wealth.   Let us step away from our yearning for control.

Let us turn from the power of this world so that we may fully embrace, fully worship our God, the God of Creation, the God of love, the God who comes to us in Christ Jesus.  Come, let us worship together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Nora Tallent

Holy and marvelous God, we come before you this day with a deepening awareness of

our lives and our actions.   We know, and we confess that we do not always speak and act with

the power of love.  Sometimes, Holy Spirit, we allow ourselves to be motivated, not by your holy thirst for justice, but by our own shallow desires.  Sometimes, Lord Jesus, we allow ourselves to be overcome by anxiety, cynicism and fear.  And when this happens, God, we are nowhere near the path you have laid out for us in Christ Jesus.  Call us back, we pray.  Forgive us for our wandering minds and hearts.   Have mercy on us for our never-ending selfishness.  Bring us anew to the challenge and joy of building your Christian community in this place, and push us into the future with a renewed sense of love and hope.   We ask this and pray this in the name of Christ Jesus, AMEN.
