WELCOME: Rob Bickmore
GREETING: Pastor Schuyler Rhodes
CALL TO WORSHIP: Charlotte Peterson
God calls us from the tumult of the world around us.
God calls us to lay down our burdens and give them to God.
God calls us to set our sights on and give our lives to the healing of the world.
God calls us now to spiritual nurture and worship as we rise to this moment.
Come, let us worship. Come, let us worship.
OPENING HYMN: “How Great Thou Art” (UM Hymnal 77) played by Marilyn Lee
1: O Lord my God, When I was in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Chorus: Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
how great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
how great Thou art, how great Thou art!
2: When through the woods, and forest glades I wander.
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur.
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
(Chorus)
3: And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on a Cross, my burdens gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
(Chorus)

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the way of peace.
Come into the brokenness of our lives and our land with your healing love.
Help us to be willing to bow before you in true repentance,
And to bow to one another in real forgiveness.
By the fire of your Holy Spirit, melt our hard hearts
And consume the pride and prejudice which separate us.
Fill us, Lord, with your perfect love, which casts out our fear,
And find us together in that unity which you share with the Creator and the Holy Spirit.
AMEN.

We come together from many places. We have different perspectives and different views, but we are united by God’s powerful grace in Christ Jesus and in this grace we are called to surrender everything that we think is important and train our sight on what is important to God. This is the path to deep and transforming worship. This is the road to life everlasting. Come, let us be in a Spirit of worship together.
OPENING HYMN: "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less" (UMH 368) played by Marilyn Lee
1 My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.
Refrain:
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in ev'ry high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]
3 His oath, his covenant, his blood
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]

GREETING ONE ANOTHER: (Rob Bickmore)
Yes, we are gathered in this moment from many places, unable to see one another but still held in the warm embrace of Christian community. In this moment, please think of one member of this community who you have not spoken with recently, and commit to giving them a call this afternoon. Your love made visible will matter a great deal.
CALL TO WORSHIP: (Pastor Schuyler Rhodes)
St. Clement of Alexandria, living in the 3d century in Africa, said that the most fervent of prayers we can offer to God is our very lives. We gather now in solemn joy to offer our lives to God in Christian worship. Come, let us open our hearts to the God of love! Come, let us worship!
OPENING HYMN: “They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love” (FWS 2223)(Organist, Marilyn Lee)
We are one in the Spirit
We are one in the Lord
We are one in the Spirit
We are one in the Lord
And we pray that all unity
May one day be restored.
REFRAIN:
And they’ll know we are Christians
By our love, by our love
Yes, they’ll know we are Christians
By our love.
We will walk with each other
We will walk hand and hand
We will walk with each other
We will walk hand in hand
And together we will spread the news
That God is in our land (REFRAIN)
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
And we’ll guard each man’s dignity
And save each man’s pride (REFRAIN)
All praise to the Father
From whom all things come
And all praise to Christ Jesus his only son
And all praise to the Spirit
Who makes us one (REFRAIN)
THE WESLEYAN COVENANT PRAYER: UMH 607 (led by Charlotte Peterson)
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee,
Exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O Glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
Thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
CALL TO CONFESSION: (Pastor Schuyler Rhodes)
Come, let us lay down our burdens before God as we name the brokenness that lives in our livers and our hearts as we enter into Silent Prayers of Confession. Come, let us pray.
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (Charlotte Peterson)
Loving God, we hear much in our world about the law and how we must follow it,
For us, though, the law is fulfilled in followed by how we love.
The Truth is this Lord.
We have not followed your royal rule of love.
We have not forgiven as you have forgiven us.
We have not heard the cries of the poor.
We have not reached out to liberate the oppressed.
Forgive us God. Have mercy on us and empower us, we pray,
to be your church now and always, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON: (Pastor Schuyler Rhodes)
Forgiveness comes to us even when we do not know or sense it. For God has gone the distance, giving even God’s self in Christ Jesus so that we might be forgiven. This beautiful reality both humbles and calls us forward! In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

1 Just as I am, without one plea,
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidd'st me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
2 Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
3 Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
4 Just as I am, thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

GREETING ONE ANOTHER: (Pastor Schuyler Rhodes)
Good morning Sisters and Brothers! Though we cannot greet one another in person as we would love to do, we can reach out and send our welcome to others. Let us take a moment in silence. In this time, think of three people you will call this week. In the coming days call these people to see how they are doing. Offer to pray with them. Greet them in the name of Christ.
CALL TO WORSHIP: (Elizabeth Truesdell)
We are called by a wonderful God to rise up beyond the challenges that surround us and to give our lives in worship to God! In this moment the voice of the Holy comes to each one of us, saying, “lay your burdens down and trust in me.” This ability to trust God is the beginning of faith and the touchstone of worship.
OPENING HYMN: “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” (FWS 2129)
1 I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
no turning back, no turning back.
2 Though none go with me, I still will follow;
though none go with me, I still will follow;
though none go with me, I still will follow;
no turning back, no turning back.
3 The world behind me, the cross before me;
the world behind me, the cross before me,
the world behind me, the cross before me;
no turning back, no turning back.
CALL TO CONFESSION: (Pastor Schuyler Rhodes)
In a world like the one we inhabit today, truth telling is not held up as a very high value.
But for people of faith, speaking truth is at the core of who we are in Jesus Christ. We are called to speak the truth of love, the truth of compassion, the truth of forgiveness and grace. And, sisters and brothers we are called to live these truths. But first, let us come to the source, our wonderful God, and tell God our very own truths.
Let us silence our busy minds and offer up our prayer of confession to God
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION:

God calls us as people of faith to give of ourselves. It is in this giving that we find ourselves. It is in our generous hearts that new life flowers. Come, sisters and brothers, let us pour ourselves out in self-giving love as we worship together today. AMEN
OPENING HYMN: “Take My Life and Let it Be” vs 1,2,3 (UM Hymnal #399)(Marilyn Lee, Organist)
- Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.
- Take my voice, and let me sing always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee.
Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use every power as thou shalt choose.
- Take my will, make it thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for thee.
CALL TO CONFESSION: (Pastor Schuyler)
Friends, God does not stand like some cosmic Cop, shining a bright light in our faces and demanding that we “confess our sins….” No. Our God surrounds us with forgiving grace, offering us healing and new life before we have even admitted our frailties and our weaknesses. As we open our hearts to receive God’s grace, let us also take a moment to unburden ourselves and offer God the struggles, the pain and mis-steps we have made.
Let us take this moment in silence to connect and to share with God.

- God of change and glory, God of time and space,
When we fear the future, give to us your grace.
In the midst of changing ways give us still the grace to praise.
REFRAIN:
Many gifts, Spirit, one love known in many ways.
In our difference is blessing, from diversity we praise one Giver,
One Lord, one Spirit, one Word known in many ways,
Hallowing our days. For the Giver, for the gifts, praise, praise, praise!
- God of many colors, God of many signs,
you have made us different, blessing many kinds.
As the old ways disappear, let your love cast out our fear. (Refrain)
- Freshness of the morning, newness of each night,
You are creating endless love and light.
This we see, as shadows part, many gifts from one great heart. (Refrain)
BENEDICTION: (Pastor Schuyler Rhodes)
And now may the God of peace, the God of hope and new beginnings call us each to become a living sacrifice, pure and holy, as we go forward in the name of the Creator, the Word and the Holy Spirit.

Call To Worship: Rob Bickmore
All: St. Clement of Alexandria, in the beginning of the third century AD said that “The most fervent of prayers we can offer up to God is our very lives.” We come together across the ether to empower one another as we seek to live lives that are a fragrant and powerful prayer to our Maker. So come, let us make a beginning as we worship. Come, let us open our hearts and give our lives over the power of love. AMEN.
Opening Hymn (UMH 557): "Blessed Be the Ties That Bind" (Verses 1-3) played by Marilyn Lee
1 Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.
2 Before our Father's throne
we pour our ardent prayers;
our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
our comforts and our cares.
3 We share our mutual woes,
our mutual burdens bear,
and often for each other flows
the sympathizing tear.

1 Standing on the promises of Christ my king,
through eternal ages let his praises ring;
glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.
Refrain:
Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of God my Savior;
standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
2 Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
3 Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

Let us take this time of worship and share it so that all of our lives will be one life giving act of worship to the almighty God. Amen.
